Good Old Friends

Two old friends

Visited tonight.

For 29 years

They’ve been a delight.

We only have coffee

A few times a year—

But they’re dear friends,

And this is clear:

When we’re down,

They come around.

They’re older than we,

But it’s no big deal:

They’re current and fun

And the hugs are real.

He’s like a dad,

She’s like a mother,

But we love to laugh

And tease each other:

And when we’re down,

They come around.

She’s a cancer survivor

And he just retired.

She goes to Curves,

His heart’s been rewired.

Some day they’ll go

To heaven above,

And we’ll miss the coffee,

The laughs, and the love.

‘Cause when we’re down

They won’t be around.

But until then

I think we’ve softened:

We meet for coffee

A little more often.

We listen and learn

As much as we can

From this dear lady

And wise old man.

No need to be down—

Just Come Around.

Sounds like you had a good time! Love the little ditty, too.
