Traits of the Tempter

= – =

Last Sunday’s sermon was on Luke Chapter 4;

Compressing it to a minute would be quite a chore.

It’s likely I won’t relate it to you straightly on the nose,

But I’d like to give it a shot.  ‘Ready? Here goes:

= – =

In a dry, barren wasteland, Satan used all his charm;

But Jesus, in the Spirit, could never be harmed.

The audacity of the enemy—to test the Son of Man!

And he’d do it to you—with cunning, subtle plans.

= – =

Just when things are fine—in your quiet, peaceful hour,

The diabolical one shows up to destroy and devour.

If not for prayer and study, a person could get vexed—

‘Cause he lies by omission and misusing God’s text.

= – =

Beware of the enemy, about life or Holy Writ:

He takes what is good—and messes with it.

When Scripture’s out of context, don’t listen to such lies:

We know where that comes from; we must open our eyes.

= – =

Don’t get lost….  in what people did or didn’t:

Jesus bypassed all that, and responded, “It is written.”

The first Adam had it perfect! But he utterly failed;

The second Adam (Jesus), amidst suffering, prevailed!

= – =

Meditate on God’s Word—know it, and trust

In Jesus, our High Priest who sympathizes with us.

If you’re ever lied to, and think you’ve lost your place,

Consider Jesus—made like us—He knows what we face!

= – =

In Christ we have power, and the wisdom Scripture brings;

By His Holy Spirit, we can see unseen things.

The mysteries of God, to us are on display—

But not so for principalities who are passing away.

= – =

When Satan described his power over kings and nations,

He was lying through his teeth—to the God of all Creation!

Satan doesn’t orchestrate the leaders of these lands,

Any more than God the Father dwells in temples made with hands.

= – =

If what you’re being told convinces you God’s not there,

Or that a Christian isn’t forgiven, or that your Father doesn’t care,

Or that the thing you’re going through isn’t part of God’s plan,

Remember, there’s a liar!  Don’t believe it, Friend!

= – =

If you trust in Christ the Savior, I tell you: Do not fear.

Because of His blood, to God you can draw near.

If you believe in Biblical truth, and to the Savior cling,

Believe GOD.  He hears you.  And He owns everything!

= – =

1 Cor. 10:13  No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
