Re-Gifting

[Sermon Excerpts]

Romans 12:6  – Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly

SERVING

There is one body of Christ: Unity.

There are many members: Diversity.

There is Mutuality. We need each other.

Charisma, the word for gift.  It’s not that some are charismatic and some are not.  No, every Christian is gifted. 1 Peter 4:10  As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another
Be humble. 1 Cor. 4:7  What do you have that you did not receive?
Christ’s hands, Christ’s eyes, Christ’s ears, His feet, we’re it: the body of Christ, here. 1 John 4:11 – Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Remember who you serve. Col. 3:24 – It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
Remember why you serve. 1 Peter 4:11 – whoever serves …so that in all things God may be glorified
Remember in whose power you serve. Romans 7:6 – we serve in newness of the Spirit

TEACHING

Just like with service, every Christian is called to teach. Col. 3:16 – with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another
But not every Christian is a gifted teacher. Heb. 5:12 – though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you
It’s a serious thing when a man sets himself up as a spokesman for God. 1 John 4:1 – Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God
A gifted teacher will have a knack at taking God’s Word and unfolding it. Ps. 119:130 – The unfolding of Your words gives light
A real teacher will have a burden to teach the whole counsel of God’s Word. Acts 20:20 – I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable
A teacher’s life must be consistent with his teaching. 1 Thess. 1:5 – just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you
The teacher will incur a stricter judgment. James 3:1 – Let not many of you become teachers… such we will incur a stricter judgment.
If you’re going to teach, you be sure and teach God’s Word. Don’t be teaching your word, or man’s words. 1 Thess. 2:13 – you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God
It takes hard work. 1 Tim. 4:15 –  Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them ….. 1 Tim. 5:17 – The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard
Pay close attention to yourself, and to your teaching. 1 Tim. 4:16 – Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things ….. 2 Tim. 2:15 Be diligent… accurately handling the word of truth.
Study it and Practice it.  Then teach it. Ezra 7:10 – For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the Lord and to practice it, and to teach His statutes
