To the Scattered Chosen

From Peter
To the scattered chosen,
Known of God,
Set apart by the Spirit,
To obey Christ,
And be sprinkled with His blood.
Grace and peace.
Blessed be God
Who in mercy
Caused us to be born again
Through Jesus’s resurrection
To an inheritance
Reserved in heaven for you
Who are protected
By God’s power
Through faith
For salvation to be revealed
You rejoice even through trials
So your faith can be tested and proved
When Jesus comes.
Meanwhile you love Him and rejoice,
Obtaining salvation as the result.
The prophets searched for the coming suffering Servant
Who would later receive glory;
God showed them they were called to serve you.
So keep focused on the grace coming when Jesus returns.
Be like good kids, not going back to your sin.
Be holy, for God is holy.
If you call Him Father, conduct yourself in fear,
Knowing you were bought with the blood of Christ.
Known before earth began,
He came now for you who believe in God,
Who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory,
So your faith and hope are in God.
Since you obediently loved the brothers,
Love each other without hypocrisy
Because earthly bodies die,
But you were born through God’s Word, which endures forever.
So quit all hate, lying, hypocrisy, envy, and slander.
Long for God’s Word so you can grow,
If you’ve begun to know the Lord’s kindness.
Come to Christ,
A living stone that men rejected but precious to God.
You’re also living stones being built up
For a holy priesthood
To offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God
Through Jesus Christ.
he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
This is for you who believe
But for those who disbelieve,
He became a stone of stumbling,
Because they are disobedient to the word,
and to this doom they were also appointed.
But you are a chosen race,
A people for God’s own possession
To proclaim the excellence of Him
Who called you out of darkness
into His marvelous light
You have received mercy.
Abstain from fleshly lusts,
Which wage war against the soul.
Keep your behavior excellent among the world,
So if they slander you now,
Because of your good deeds
They’ll glorify God when Jesus comes.
Obey the government:
God established it to punish evildoers
And praise those who do right.
God’s desire is this:
By doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men.
You are free men,
But don’t abuse that privilege:
You are God’s property.
Honor all people,
Love the brotherhood,
Fear God,
Honor the President.
Employees, obey and respect your bosses,
Even if they’re unreasonable.
God is pleased if you bear up when suffering unjustly.
Here’s why you were called:
Christ suffered unjustly as an example:
He didn’t lie, revile, or threaten;
He trusted God, who will judge fairly.
On the cross, Jesus took on our sins,
So we can die to sin and live to righteousness.
Once astray, you returned to our Shepherd and Guardian.
In that same trust, wives submit to your husbands;
You can win them by your example.
Adorn your heart with gentleness.
Don’t be afraid to follow Sarah’s example of submission.
Husbands, be understanding; she’s weaker.
Honor her as another who will inherit God’s grace,
Lest your prayers be hindered.
Everyone: get along, empathize, be kindred, kind, and humble.
Don’t retaliate, bless.
That’s why you were called, to bless and inherit a blessing.
He who wants life, love, and good days must not speak evil or lies.
He must be good and pursue peace.
The Lord looks toward the righteous and hears their prayers,
But the face of the Lord is against evildoers.
If you work at being good, who can harm you?
But if you do suffer for it, you’re still better off.
Don’t fear their intimidation.
Make Jesus your Lord.
Be ready to speak up when asked about your hope,
But do it gently and reverently.
Keep a good conscience, so any slanderers will be proved wrong.
It’s better to suffer for being good than for doing wrong.
Christ died for sins once for all,
The just for the unjust,
To bring us to God,
Having been put to death in the flesh,
But made alive in the Spirit.
In the Spirit
He proclaimed liberty to those enslaved to disobedience,
When God’s patience waited in Noah’s day,
In which eight persons were brought safely through the water.
Now, baptism saves you
(not a bath) but an appeal to God for a good conscience—
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
who is at the right hand of God,
having gone into heaven,
after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.
Since Christ suffered,
Have the same purpose,
Because anyone who suffers this way has ceased from sin,
Living out his life here—not in lust but for God’s will.
You’ve had enough of the world:
Sex, lust, getting drunk, partying, and other horrid things.
They’ll be shocked you quit all that,
And they malign you;
But they’ll give an account
To Him who will judge the living and the dead.
That’s why the gospel is even brought to the worldly:
Though they’re judged in the flesh as men,
they may live in the spirit the way God wills.
The end is near!
Be wise and alert so you can pray.
Above all, love one another,
Because love covers a multitude of sins.
Be caring; don’t complain.
Use your talents to help each other,
Since God (in grace) gave you those talents.
If you speak, speak as if it were God talking.
If you serve, do it in God’s strength.
This way God gets all the glory through Christ,
To whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever.
Amen.
Don’t be surprised at some ordeal;
It’s for your testing.
As much as you suffer, rejoice that same amount.
That way, when He comes, you’ll really be happy!
If they give you grief for being a Christian,
You’re blessed because it proves to you that God’s Spirit is with you.
Be sure you aren’t suffering because of hate, stealing, evildoing, or meddling.
But if your suffering is for behaving as a Christian should,
There’s no shame that: glorify God in this name.
It’s time for judgment to start with God’s people.
And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved,
what will become of the godless man and the sinner?
Even in suffering, we can trust our Creator and do right through it all.
Elders, shepherd the flock of God,
Voluntarily overseeing them
The way God wants:
Not for money,
Not lording it over them,
Being a good example.
That way, when Christ comes back
You’ll get an unfading prize.
Young people, subject yourself to the older.
Everyone, be humble with each other:
God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
Be humble; God will exalt you later.
Cast all your anxiety on Him,
Because He cares for you.
Be serious and alert, because the devil’s prowling.
Resist him; stand in faith like some other Christians do.
After a short time of suffering,
The God of all grace,
Who called you to His eternal glory in Christ,
Will perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
To Him be dominion forever and ever.
Amen.
Silvanus handwrote my words.
This is the true grace of God.
Stand firm in it!
Others send greetings also.
Greet one another with a kiss of love.
Peace be to you all who are in Christ.
