Numb-hearted.

Mark 6:52  for they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their heart was hardened.

The word hardened, here, doesn’t mean shaking the fist (e.g., Pharaoh); it means calloused; insensitive; cold.

That happens even to the faithful.  One reason we need the Savior is we’re volatile in our passion and perspective.  We are natural beings, subject to natural thinking.  We corral our circumstances into the physical perimeter (and parameters).

This is foolish, since we know that the Lord has no such limitations!  God came to visit His Creation, but He could still walk on water.

…and they were utterly astonished, for they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves…

I can identify.  Yesterday, I saw God provide; I was joyful!  Then, today brought a lot of work; I lost sight of yesterday’s blessing.  Okay: This doesn’t make me Jack the Ripper; but it shows I’m insensitive; numb-hearted.  …..Like our forgetful forefathers floundering afloat, I overlooked the loaves.

Can numb-heartedness keep us from perceiving spiritual truths?  Can a wrong focus leave us inadequate to sort things out?  Can Satan’s wiles wiggle into the equation?

If you know Scripture, these are rhetorical questions.

Thankfully, today’s verse broke down my self-built, earth-bound fences—and I could again observe His glory.  Sadly, though, sometimes we Weebles wobble inside those walls for a lot longer.

This reminds me of a woman I know: she doesn’t forget anything.  There are certain people, in fact, she is determined to remember.  To this day, if we even mention certain people, she’ll throw a fit—maybe even walk out.  As a result, we don’t see her much. ‘Come to think of it, her issues with people on terra firma have widespread ramifications.  She’s so adamant that people should not associate with So‑and‑so, she has laid out (by last count) at least 48 (forty-eight) people she won’t have anything to do with, just because they have a connection with this person.

I don’t even know how to assess that.  It’s beyond numb-hearted.  It’s beyond being terribly, awfully, harrowingly sad.  It’s HELLACIOUS!  (I deliberately used ALL-CAPS.)

…they had not gained ANY INSIGHT from the incident of the loaves…
