“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

The other day, a friend shared a devotional on Psalm 1:3.  [http://www.icr.org/article/7299/]  It’s well written, and I recommend it.  For now, indulge me as I amplify for clarity.

This Psalm describes the person who delights in God’s law.  This person is blessed (happy).

1)-  Like a tree, transplanted to be near the water source.

.   —Secure
.   —Provided for
.   —Well cared for
.   —Bountiful
.   —No longer vulnerable
.   —No longer undernourished

2)-  He brings forth fruit in his season.

.   —God nourishes us for a purpose.
.   —The nourished, protected, godly person can expect to accomplish things.
.   —The happy Christian can bear spiritual (eternal) fruit.

3)-  His leaf also shall not wither.

.   —Those who’ve been “transplanted” will never die.
.   —The godly person has possession of eternal life.
.   —He can expect eternal fruit to be brought forth throughout the lifetime.

4)-  Whatever he does shall prosper.

.   —God will guide and help those who delight in Him.
.   —There will be prosperous endeavors for the godly person.
.   —The happy believer will grow up, spiritually.
.   —(Prosperity is as defined by God.)

Verse 6:  “For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish”

.  —God knows and helps along the way of the godly—eternally.
.  —But as for the ungodly, their way will come to an abrupt, deadly end.

Today would be a great day to begin delighting in the things of God: He is a Wonderful Father!
