Not Finishing Well

From Ephesians 4:25-32, Alistair Begg preached “How to Ruin a Church’s Effectiveness.”

1) Untruthful Speech

2) Uncontrolled Anger

3) Unchanged Lifestyle

4) Unwholesome Talk

5) Unforgiving Spirit

…let each one of you speak the truth… Be angry and do not sin… give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal… Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths… And do not grieve the Holy Spirit… Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

There once was a church in the field,

Where people could learn and be healed.

The teaching was good,

And well understood,

And the Lord Jesus Christ was revealed.

= – =

They started so well, we could see,

And, by God’s grace, they taught me.

But in spite of their song,

Something went wrong,

And hundreds of others agree.

= – =

The truth became subjective, it seems:

The people began listening to dreams.

Lie after lie has been told,

Tolerated because they’re bold,

Now the foothold’s the devil’s and his schemes.

= – =

Way back when, they had God’s love going;

Families with joy, kids worth knowing.

But they made it external,

Their treatment infernal,

And the godly saints had to get going.

= – =

The harsh language is like a cracked whip,

And the snarky-ness flies from their lips!

It doesn’t just spill out,

They plan what they’re about,

Instead of kind and peaceful, they’re snips!

= – =

But the Name of the Lord is most disgraced,

By their unforgiveness—a sad lack of grace.

They snap and they yell,

And say, “Enjoy hell!”

What has gone wrong with this place?

Heb. 12:15   See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled

    Thanks Laura,
Very important words ‘put away lying’ and ‘speaking truth’. It seems too many people are putting on lying and speaking falsehoods lately. This has become their ‘root of bitterness’ and is ‘defiling” them. So sad.

Me thinks many have been defiled. Behaviors have gotten quite wild. It might not matter to some, but not long will they be dumb….in fact, they will RUN, when the accused becomes their own child.

Thank you for honesty, you are always a dear blessing, eternally loved
