Our manager periodically flies out here, often treating us to dinner. He and my supervisor were recently adding a restaurant to GPS. She added, “Or, you could take the so-and-so exit, etc.” Well, being from thousands of miles away, to him this was gibberish. He just looked at her squarely and said, “Now you’re just talkin’ silly.”
That tickled my funny bone. Ever since then, whenever somebody’s lips are moving—and I want them to stop—I’m tempted to say it! “Now you’re just talkin’ silly.” Ha!
Maybe we could all carry a little flag around to pre-empt the verbosity. Or be like that Pixar Monster: “Shut up! You’re making it worse!”
How many can truly say we just love listening to other people? [Present blog excepted.] In conversation, if we counted the minutes we’ve “checked out”, most of us wouldn’t net 100%. Some couldn’t repeat a word of the last five minutes’ content.
“Now you’re just talkin’ silly.”
But I’m serious! Our TV-raised, cell-phone-addicted, ADHD society is very easily distracted. Those paying attention must—in love—be pro active to keep bringing our minds back into focus. AAACCK!
For this one-minute blog post, I only have a few words left. [Ahh, my point is made, hehe.] So let’s hear God’s Words on this. (FYI, this is not a TL;DR: I challenge you to stick with it!)
From Ephesians 4:
…walk in a manner worthy…
with all humility and gentleness,
showing tolerance for one another
being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit
in the bond of peace.
… He gave… teachers, for the equipping of the saints…
until we all attain to the unity of the faith…
we are no longer to be… carried about by every wind of doctrine,
by the trickery of men…
but speaking the truth in love,
we are to grow up…
be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
and put on the new self…
created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Therefore, laying aside falsehood,
speak truth each one of you with his neighbor…
Be angry, and yet do not sin;
do not let the sun go down on your anger,
and do not give the devil an opportunity.
…Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth…
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God…
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor
be put away from you, along
with all malice.
Be kind to one another,
forgiving each other,
just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
